National School of Development at Peking University Sports Business School Formally Established

The Sports Business School, affiliated to the National School of Development, Peking University, was formally founded on April 6th, 2016 in Beijing. The establishment of the Sports Business School aims to actively respond to the State Council’s policy of accelerating the development of the sports industry in China and is in line with the growing trend of the sports business.

At the ceremony, China Vanke Co., Ltd. and the Sports Business School signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Mr. Wang Shi, Chairman of China Vanke, was appointed honorary president of the Sports Business School. As the Chairman of the largest real estate company in China with $45bn in revenues in 2015, Mr. Wang founded the company Deep Dive in 2007 and has arranged for three groups of Chinese entrepreneurs to study and participate in rowing training at the University of Cambridge. In the collaborations, according to Mr. Wang, China Vanke focuses on involving more entrepreneurs in the sports industry and market, as well as supporting retired athletes in transforming into entrepreneurs by mastering business knowledge.

The National School of Development is one of the earliest national think-tanks recognized by The General Office of the CCCPC and the General Office of State Council. With its world-class research and education faculty and solid theoretical foundation support from the NSD, the Sports Business School offers extensive experience in the research and practice of the sports industry to assist entrepreneurs, government policy makers and international sport organizations. The Sports Business School also plans to cooperate with top colleges all over the world on master programs in sport management.

According to Xu Jiren, chief of the Sports News Editorial Department of Xinhua News Agency, “The Sports Business School will boost the development of the sports industry in China by academic research and talent cultivation.”

The Sports Business School is expected to start operation early this June. Besides the EMBA program in sport and health industry, courses in sports marketing, ski resort management, Olympic Winter Games operation and other related modules will also be offered.
