International Study Tour-Global Management: Study Tour to Japan, Korea, Taiwan of China...
Now many Chinese companies are facing the global competition. Some of them have even started their international operations. However, being international should be much more than an international form, market value or scale. What’s more important is the company’s internationalization in operation, profit model, social responsibility, mentality, and corporate culture.
To grow into the leaders of multinational enterprises, the Chinese entrepreneurs have to make constant reforms and innovations in corporate systems, establish a transparent, fair and rational corporate governance system, discard the dross in the traditional Chinese culture, and evolve themselves into the leaders with thought, vision, strong points, righteousness and inner quality. The course of International Study Tour-Global Management is a strategic innovation in course development of BiMBA and it will also be a key course of BiMBA in the future. By visiting and studying foreign enterprises, the students of this course detect the shortcomings of their own companies in operational philosophy, culture and strategy, structure and system. After completing the course, students will greatly improve their mentality, vision and judgment.
BiMBA has placed its international management classes to countries and regions such as Japan, Korea and Taiwan of China so that students can personally experience the management of international enterprises and think about the features of enterprises under different political, economic and cultural backgrounds, and combine their findings with the operation and management of their own enterprises. The course focuses on international leadership and all visiting arrangements emphasize the execution of international leadership.
In 2006 BiMBA brought the course to Taiwan of China. The visit to Taiwan indulged the students into deep thinking and research, touching them very much. Prof. John Zhuang Yang, International Dean of BiMBA, head of the delegation, summarized it to be “a trip of study”, “a trip of communication”, “a trip of findings” and “a trip of introspection”. It has given the students a better understanding of management in Taiwan which has the “same root, ancestors, language and origin” with mainland China. BiMBA students have “thought, learned and been enlightened” much about the international level of Taiwan, the emphasis on details and minor issues of Taiwan MBA community, awareness of crisis shown by average Taiwan entrepreneurs, high service quality, hospitality and the maintenance of traditional Chinese culture in Taiwan.
BiMBA has also cast the eyes on Korea, a new emerging economy in Asia. Between the end of 1960s and 1980s, Korea had experienced rapid economic growth known as the “Han River Miracle”. Miracles created by fast growth and high-tech development are still being made on this territory with only 99.6 thousand square kilometers and 48 million people. After the Asian financial crisis in 1997, Korea swiftly reorganized its economy. Now it boasts a number of large world-famous conglomerates, including SAMSUNG Electronics, Pohang Steelers, Hyundai Auto, and KIA Auto. To personally experience Korean speed and spirit, BiMBA students have visited 7 enterprises and organizations in Korea, namely, SAMSUNG Electronics, Hyundai Auto, Pohang Steelers, SAMSUNG BP, Bank of Korea Wynn, Seoul University and SK Telecom. Through the visit and discussions, the students have studied the secrets behind the Han River Miracle. They have also accumulated experience for Chinese enterprises to go international and catch up with the first-class counterparts in the world as soon as possible. Besides, the study has provided important guidance for Chinese companies to reform their systems and for students to grow into the leaders of international enterprises. With the instructions from the professors, the students have studied the difference and gap between large Chinese enterprises and Korean companies in internationalization of strategic thinking of corporate operation, corporate governance, corporate culture and philosophy, competition pattern and behaviors.
In the autumn of 2008, BiMBA students went to Japan, visiting the Motomachi Plant of Toyota, Sony, Kamadura Plant of Shiseido, Animation Center in Tokyo, Disaster Prevention and Future Hall Museum, and Digital Hollywood University. Meanwhile, the students have shared their viewpoints with Mr. Murakoka kyuhei, President of Japan-China Friendship Association, and other famous Japanese specialists and business people.
